Customer Reviews

dont waste your money.still does not get all of the kernels. Mandolin slicer still works best. just need to cover the rest of the blade to protect your fingers. 1Simple design flaw makes for pieces of plastic falling into the corn. This is such a great idea for anyone who needs to remove corn from the cob. I ordered two, one for my dad who at 95 years old has few front teeth left, and one for my young grandsons who love corn but haven't yet mastered the art of eating off the cob. They both worked just great the first time but with added uses the yellow plastic prongs on the bottom were partially sliced by the metal rod that strips off the kernels. Tiny pieces of yellow plastic fell into the pile of corn and could not be detected until we bit into it ( because they are same color as the corn) . I would recommend getting rid of the lower plastic prongs as the device can probably work just fine without. Unfortunately, these are being thrown away. 2Very disappointedWe were very excited to get this. So much so that my man went out and got some sweet corn immediately. We tried it on several cooked ears and it didn t work on any of them. We tried both ends of the cob. Even cut off the narrow end to see if that helped. All this did was push down on the cob and bend it. These were average sized cobs. Luckily I ordered another style stripper that worked perfectly. But we were really rooting for this one since it contained the kernels. 1Deluxe? Not so much.I love the concept, I know what they are going for here but it needs stronger materials. When it worked it was awesome, but it was short lived. The corn stripper worked for seven of my ears of corn. The ears were not large, they fit perfectly into the intake cylinder. During the eighth ear the plastic lip succumbed to pressure and broke. I blame the thin plastic. Like I said good concept, but it needs stronger materials. 1Just finished freezing 100 ears of cornI purchased this after corn season last year. While my husband manned a knife, I used this little gadget. I loved it and will be using it again next year. Is it perfect? No, but neither are my skills with a knife.Pros:* zips the kernels off with limited mess.* Mutli-tasking. My hands weren't messy from corn juice so I was able to multi-task with the blanching and cold bath.* safer. I didn't worry about knicking my fingers as the blade is enclosed.* fast. I worked faster with this than my husband did with his knife.* Dishwasher safe* Using the plunger to push the cob out of the cutter was pretty funCons:* it isn't adjustable so small cobs ended up with more kernel left on and big ones cut into the cob more* crooked cobs don't work* The plastic braces along the bottom cup got knicked up after the many ears we did* Every once in awhile the cutter got a little off and wouldn't cut right. I just handed these off to my husband to use the knifeWould I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely! While it has it's flaws, I really liked using it. I would especially recommend it to someone who can't eat corn ON the cob (braces or dentures perhaps). It allows you to cut the corn off right at the supper table without mess. 4It works very slick but if you buy it treat it like glass.Worked great but the clear plastic barrel is very fragile. It fell off the the table and on the o the vinyl floor and broke after the second use.It works very slick but if you buy it treat it like glass. 1A great time-saving gadget. This does a nice job making whole cut corn. I was looking for a corn cob cutter that would leave the kernals intact as much as possible. Especially when using a knife, and even most other corn strippers, you end up with a lot of kernals that are cut through the top of the corn, resulting in more cream and partial pieces. I found the trick to really making this device work smoother is to start with a firm, straight ear of corn. If the cob is not fully matured and still soft, this will not work. Next, make a clean cut on both the top and bottom of the cob. If the cob is taller than the cylinder, it should be cut to size. Then put the smaller end into the bottom, pressing it firmly into the teeth to prevent it from rotating. (The larger end cannot grab the teeth as well.) Find the right working height (i.e. counter, table, or sink) to comfortably put equal downward pressure & twist on the blade. For me, setting the unit in the sink gave the best leverage. Since the blade is not an adjustable size, I almost expected to lose a fair amount of volume if a cob was too small. But as long as the cob is fully developed, that wasn't a problem at all. Overall, a well-designed, well-made tool. 5Waste of money, piece of junk! This looks like a great gadget, but it needs to be rethought, as it has too many problems. First, the bottom lid, that has teeth in it to hold onto the ear of corn, screws into the tube. As you put downward, rotational pressure on the top, the bottom unscrews. The device then slips off the countertop and makes quite a mess. Second, unless the ear of corn your stripping is the right size, and most of mine were not, the tube gets stuck halfway through. Thirdly, it s cheaply made, as mine came apart on the 20th ear of corn. Saving the worst for last, it s not returnable. So now I have an expensive piece of junk, too expensive to throw out, too big to keep. It just isn t worth it. Try something else. 1Total Garbage! Buyer Beware!Complete garbage. Broke several ways the very first time I used it. I made it through about 4 ears before the bottom prong broke. Then two top holders busted off. Then on ear 6 the actual blade broke off and jammed up into the tube. And somewhere along the way the tube itself cracked too. So not only did it take FOREVER to arrive from China, I can't return it?!? Specifically because the shipping took so long accordingly to the return policy. So bummed because I was really excited too get this product. 1If you can love a tool, this will definitely be one of them.Prior to getting this tool, I stripped kernels from the cob like most other people do - with a sharp knife. I positioned the cob on a cutting board, put the knife at the top of the cob and forced the knife down the length of the cob with a straight cut. Since this was a straight cut, it would get about 2 whole rows of kernels (if I positioned the knife right, and made a straight cut along the cob), and cut the rows on either side in half not getting the whole kernel. Sometimes it was "whoops, the ear slid on the cutting board" or "whoops, I almost caught my finger" or "whoops, I cut part of the cob with the kernels". There were also at least 4 to 5 cuts per cob, and generally, the juices of the cut kernels shot over the cutting board and onto the counter, not to mention the juices of the corn shooting everywhere. Any of you that have cut corn from the cob with a knife can relate to everything I have said here. Cutting the kernels off with a knife, collecting the kernels from the cutting board, and putting them into a storage bag can take at least 3-5 minutes per cob. With this tool, you put the cob into the cylinder, position the cob under the cutting tool, push down the tool, remove the cutting tool from the cylinder, insert the pusher into the cylinder to eject the empty cob, and pour the corn kernels into your storage bag. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds with no mess.Prior to buying this tool, I read reviews that stated it was good only for medium to large cobs, but I have processed over 8 dozen cobs and haven't come across one that it couldn't handle. Maybe by small, people mean short, but a cob would have to be pretty short for it not to fit. If they mean narrow, the cob would have to be pretty narrow for it not to work. I believe that any normal sized cob will work with this stripper. At any rate, this corn stripper has made my life so much easier, and I no longer dread the job of stripping the kernels from fresh corn. Fresh or blanched and frozen, I will never buy store frozen corn again. There is really no comparison to the corn kernels you make from fresh corn.UPDATE 9/l7/13I took off 1 star because the plastic tube that holds the corn breaks easily. The second time I used it, it slipped, and part of the top cracked off. A little further into the job, another piece cracked off from the top of the tube. A little further into the job, it wasn't cutting very well, and I noticed the cutting teeth on one side were bent inward. So I straightened it with pliers, and continued. I managed to get through 4 dozen ears, a couple of which had to be cut with a knife because they were too wide at one end. In spite of the problems and the breakage (it's still useable), this tool still shortens the time needed to do the job with a lot less mess (unless my husband is using it). It would be better if it were made with stronger materials, though. For the price, I don't think it lasts very long.UPDATE 06/19//19:I bought the replacement corn stripper for the one I broke 6 years ago, and then bought another just in case I broke the replacement. So far, I haven't had to use the extra one. Every year, we buy 10-12 dozen ears of fresh organic sweet corn that I blanch, strip, and freeze for future meals. This corn stripper has lasted me all this time and still works perfectly. I wouldn't be without it and would never go back to stripping corn with a knife. Since each ear of corn takes a matter of 5 seconds or so to set it up and strip it, I can get a few dozen ears done in an hour and a half or so, and this is counting the blanching and packaging. Granted, depending on the diameter of the cob, it may take more pressure to cut of the kernels, but only wide cobs take more pressure. Most of the cobs strip very quickly. Personally, I would never want to cut kernels from cobs of corn with a knife again. Using this tool is so very much faster and easier.I hope this review was helpful for you. I will update the review if my opinion changes. 4
